It can days, months, years…mostly years, for someone to find their passion. I know that I did a lot of soul searching trying to figure out what I “wanted to do with my life” after I graduated from college.

My first adventure after graduating from college was interning at Disney World. Yes, the home of Mickey Mouse and the gang. In all honesty, I applied for the college program at Disney because I didn’t want to find a “real” job. So figured that I would hang out in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, for a few months while I figured it out. Well, I came back with a boyfriend. Who later became my husband. Sometimes adventures turn out way different than you could ever expect!

I found my passion for photographing people when I was working in my first official post-college job — for a textbook publishing company in California. Textbooks. Trust me, I was not seeing the profits of the high prices of textbooks! I would sit in my cubicle dreaming of life on the outside, thinking about how I could make a difference (even a tiny one) in this world, and how I could escape from my cubicle.

It wasn’t until I moved to Texas that I finally got the chance to break out on my own. I’m so glad that I decided to take a risk and give this whole running a business thing a try. It’s definitely been one of the most challenging yet rewarding things I’ve ever done in my life. I never in a million years thought that I would own my own business, but I’m so proud to say that I do! It’s a continuous journey with an ever-changing learning curve, but I’m so excited to have found something I love doing: photographing high school seniors!

So, I encourage you, while you’re in high school and college, to find something you love. Even if you don’t think that you’ll be able to “do anything with it”….find something that you’re passionate about.
