Brand Photo Shoot Checklist: Everything You Need to Know

Personal Branding Photography

A brand photo shoot can be a powerful tool for showcasing your business and creating a cohesive visual identity. However, planning and executing a successful shoot can be a daunting task. This checklist will guide you through the process, from selecting a location to choosing the perfect wardrobe

Determine the Purpose and Goals of the Brand Photo Shoot

Before you start planning your brand photo shoot, it’s important to determine the purpose and goals of the shoot. Are you looking to showcase a new product or service? Do you want to create a cohesive visual identity for your brand? Are you trying to attract a specific audience or demographic? Once you have a clear understanding of your goals, you can start planning the details of the shoot, such as location, wardrobe, and props.

Choose and Scout the Location

The location of your brand photo shoot can make a big impact on the overall look and feel of your images. Consider the purpose and goals of your shoot when choosing a location. What type of feeling do you want your photos to elicit and what type of location would best showcase that?

Do you want photos in your studio or office space? Or perhaps a rented home with amazing natural light? Do you meet with clients at coffee shops? That might be a great idea to give your potential customers a look at what it’s like to work with you.

Once you have a general idea of the type of location you want, it’s important to scout the area beforehand. Look for potential photoshoot locations, check for lighting and accessibility, and make note of any potential obstacles or distractions. Definitely consult your photographer about the lighting situation.

Select Your Team and Schedule the Brand Photo Shoot

Once you have your location and concept in mind, it’s time to select your creative team and schedule the shoot. This includes hiring a photographer, makeup artist, hair stylist, or wardrobe stylist, and any other necessary professionals. Make sure to communicate your vision and goals for the shoot with your team beforehand. It’s also important to schedule the shoot at a time that works for everyone involved and allows for enough time to capture all the necessary shots.

A brand photo shoot is a lot to put together and involves lots of planning. I recommend hiring a photographer who specializes in brand photography and marketing photos in order to make sure that your results are strategic and targeted to your ideal client.

Plan Your Wardrobe and Props

Your wardrobe and props can make or break your brand photo shoot. Make sure to select clothing and accessories that align with your brand’s aesthetic and messaging. Consider bringing multiple outfit options to the shoot, as well as any props that may enhance the overall look and feel of the photos. Don’t forget to iron and prepare your clothing beforehand to ensure a polished and professional appearance. I recommend hanging all items you intend to wear on a rack that you can quickly access.

If you feel stuck on what to wear, consulting a wardrobe stylist could be a worthwhile investment. They will be able to suggest outfits based on your body type, best colors for you, and style that you want.

Create a Shot List and Storyboard

Before your brand photo shoot, it’s important to create a shot list and storyboard to ensure that you capture all the necessary shots and tell a cohesive visual story. A shot list is a detailed list of all the shots you want to capture during the shoot, while a storyboard is a visual representation of the shots in sequence. This will help you stay organized and focused during the shoot, and ensure that you have all the necessary content for your brand’s marketing materials.

When you hire a seasoned personal branding photographer, they should include this process in their packages. It’s the photographer’s job to ensure that all the photos that you envision as the client are captured in the best way. Be sure to work with your photographer to communicate everything that you hope to get from your photos.
