best marketing tip for growing your business

Want to know the secret to growing your business?

It sounds like something mystical and hard to attain, but actually, it’s easier than you think.

If you want to grow your business, you have to start with a good foundation. I know, it’s the boring part of business. Most entrepreneurs are ready to hit the ground running, but doing this “homework” is crucial to being able to build your business.

However, when you’re working towards a goal, you need to have a target, right? So this foundation will help you figure out your target so that you can get to your goal easier and faster. Isn’t that what we all want?

Best Marketing Tip for Growing Your Business

Alright, as promised, here’s the secret to growing your business or in other words the best marketing tip for growing your business…

The key to getting sales is knowing who your business is for.

Yep, you know need to know who you’re selling to.

Who are you serving?

Now get more specific. And then make it even more specific.

For example:

  • If you sell beauty and skincare products, and think your business sells to women, that’s not specific enough.
  • If you’re a business coach and think your business serves anyone with a business, that’s not specific enough.

Let’s be honest, your product or service is not for everyone. It may feel tempting to think that we could serve or sell to anyone, but really, it shouldn’t be.

Often, business owners get worried if they get too specific with their ideal customer because they feel like they might miss out on sales. This is why many businesses don’t get specific enough or achieve the results they desire.

Don’t let that happen to you.

Be Specific About Your Ideal Customer

I’d venture to say that your business is for a small group of people who will be excited to spend money with you and share it with others who may need your products or services.

If you try to sell to everyone, nobody is going to hear you or buy from you.

Here are some hard truths that a lot of business owners tend to ignore.

  • Marketing doesn’t work without knowing your ideal client (aka a target)
  • Sales copy doesn’t work either without knowing your target client
  • Email marketing without a target client will feel generic and boring
  • Getting testimonials will be rough without an ideal client

However, when you create and tailor an experience for ONE person, it will prepare a solid foundation to grow your business serving the people you work with best.

That beauty and skincare product business?

Imagine if instead of trying to sell to “all women”, they targeted their efforts to moms getting back into the workplace after having a baby.

That business coach?

Imagine if instead of trying to serve “anyone with a business”, they targeted virtual assistants looking to pivot from general VA tasks to offering VIP days.

Growing Your Business: Serve One Person

It’s hard to hear sometimes, but you must learn to serve and sell to ONE PERSON. That is the best marketing tip for growing your business.

Your dream customer is a real person with specific wants, desires, and has pain points that your business can help them with.

By having a very specific target that you understand, know, and can help, you can speak SPECIFICALLY to that person in your marketing, sales copy, email marketing, and when gathering testimonials.

People will be able to identify themselves (or not) from what you offer. They will know that you have the ability to help them because you are EXACTLY who/what they are looking for.
