Last weekend we finally tried Whiskey Cake in Plano.
I had heard a couple of things about the place.
“Try the Whiskey Cake.”
“You’ll probably have to wait.”
“It’s worth the wait.”
Well, all of the above are true. I made a wise move to call ahead to put our name on the list before we drove out to Plano. Once we arrived, the people waiting for tables was nearly out the door. And it was a cold night! Apparently they had misplaced out previous call and so they put us back on the list. (It was Saturday night).
It was definitely the longest wait at a restaurant that I can remember. Thankfully, we didn’t just try to walk in. The walk-in wait was at 2-2.5 hours! In the end we waited about 1.5 hours before we were seated.
If you’ve never been there, it’s a farm-to-table concept with all of their food sourced as locally as possible. All of the food was really good – we had the hummus and pita, I had the OMG Burger, and Cent had the Basic Burger.
And since everyone I’ve ever talked to about Whiskey Cake said we had to get said cake, plus it was my birthday weekend, we did. The Whiskey Cake was on point. I don’t know what it is, but it’s good. I think it’s Toffee Cake with pecans and caramel, and freshly whipped cream. I mean, how could it not be good?!
Would we go back? Yes, but probably on a weeknight, and with preparation to wait…or timing it just perfectly by calling ahead and arriving right at the right time. Or maybe just sitting in the open seating tables.
Not going to lie, I might just go back for the Whiskey Cake itself.
