Tips for Attending Women’s Networking Groups

Bring a friend with you!

Sometimes attending networking events can feel intimidating if you are an introvert. One of the best ways to get out there (even when you’re nervous) is to bring a friend. Especially if that friend is an extrovert or really good at making introductions.

Practice saying what you do.

I remember when I went to my very first networking event, I had a hard time saying that I was a photographer. So, if you’re new in business, or starting something completely different from what you’ve been doing, practice saying what you do. Whether you want to call it an elevator pitch or just introducing yourself, make sure it rolls off your tongue.

Bring your business cards (printed or digital!)

Be sure to bring business cards, whether they are printed or digital, to share your information with the people that you meet. It’s the worst to attend a networking event, meet someone you vibe with, and then you don’t have their information.

Follow up after the event

If you meet a networking partner that you enjoyed chatting with, follow up with her! Invite her to coffee or lunch to get to know her better. One-on-ones can be a great way to build a working relationship and start those referrals flowing.
