When it comes to your headshots for LinkedIn, you’ll want to consider what first impression you’re making. Do you want to present yourself as professional, experienced, and confident? Then you’ll want to have a good photo of yourself.

Whether you want to smile or be serious in your headshot is entirely up to you. However, I believe that having a smile in your headshot will help you look more approachable online.

As far as what to wear, think of the saying “Dress for the job you want.” So if you’re gunning for a C-level position, dress like it. That might mean a suit. Or, if there’s a company that you really want to work for and you know that the company culture is more relaxed, then you might go for something more business casual, or casual yet polished.

How to Book a Photographer for your Headshot for LinkedIn

While you can certainly take your own photo for LinkedIn headshots, I’d recommend hiring a pro photographer. You can find someone to take your professional photo by searching in your local Facebook groups, on Google, or asking a friend.

Once you’ve found a photographer (or a few), it’s time to inquire with them. It’s helpful if you have a budget in mind so that you can tell the photographer. Headshots will run you anywhere from $75 to $675 depending on the photographer. There is no right or wrong – choose the photographer whose style and pricing works best for you.
