It happens to the best of businesses—one day, your brand feels like it’s firing on all cylinders, and the next, it just feels a little… off. Like that old jacket you used to love but now doesn’t quite fit right, yeah, something kind of like that. Now, if you’re finding yourself disconnected from your brand, you’re not alone. Believe it or not, this is more common than you think, and oftentimes, because of the question of when they should rebrand (if that’s even appropriate).
Now, if it all feels stale, that doesn’t mean your brand is done for. It doesn’t mean your business is done for either. Actually, it may only need a little love or maybe even a bit of a refresh. So, with all of that said, here’s how to get that spark back when you’re just not feeling it with your brand.
When a brand starts to feel stale, it’s often because it’s drifted away from its original core values. So, just go ahead and think back to when your brand first launched—what were the guiding principles? What was the mission that got you excited? Now, over time, it’s easy for a brand to stray as the business grows, trends change, and new priorities take over. So, with that correct feeling that you’re having, now’s the perfect time to reassess those values. Do they still resonate with you and your audience?
Sometimes, the brand feels off because certain elements are no longer doing their job. Maybe the logo doesn’t quite represent the brand’s personality anymore, or your messaging feels a bit out of touch with your target audience. So, when this happens, it’s important to take a step back and look at everything with fresh eyes. Now, you’re going to want to ask yourself a few questions.
For example, what’s working? What’s starting to look outdated? What just doesn’t feel existing? It might help to get feedback on it, too, and ideally, you should look into some marketing case studies as well from other businesses that have some rebranding (a lot of major companies have done this). So that alone will give you a lot of insight.
When your brand feels like it’s stuck in a rut, it can be helpful to look at what others in your industry are doing. Now, it’s really important to understand that this isn’t about copying; it’s about getting inspired.
So, inspiration is a key part here. You’ll want to check out your competitors and see how they’re engaging with their audience. Maybe they’ve done a creative website redesign, launched a fun social media campaign, or updated their packaging to feel more modern.
Sometimes, things just won’t click, but it’s not the end of the world. So, if things still aren’t clicking, it could be time for a brand refresh. Don’t panic—a refresh doesn’t mean throwing everything out and starting over. It’s more like giving your brand a facelift. This could mean updating the logo, tweaking the color scheme, or even changing the tone of your messaging.
