As a natural light on-location senior portrait photographer, photographing sessions about two hours before sunset, my favorite times of year for senior portraits are Spring and Fall. The weather is best and the sunsets are gorgeous.
Here are my tips for scheduling your senior portraits all year around.
Winter

- It’s usually cold, but you may luck out with a warmer day in the 60’s or 70’s.
- Winter is a great time of year if you’re wanting an urban location.
- Winter is not a great time of year if you’re wanting a nature or park setting and hoping for green trees and flowers.
- Rain will cause rescheduling.
- If you love cold weather, sweaters, scarves, and layering, this is a great time of year for you.

Summer

- Well, the Texas heat is real. And it’s hot. So if you don’t like summer heat, I recommend waiting until the Fall.
- However, if you love the heat, summer is the perfect time to shoot (but you’ll need to factor in sweating)
- You’re off from school, so you don’t have to worry about homework (always a good thing!)
- Typically you won’t have to worry too much about the rain.
- If you’re a shorts and tank top kind of girl, this is your time of year for your shoot.
