Seniors

Dallas Senior Photography at White Rock Lake

It’s your senior year. It’s exciting. Your final year of high school. You’re getting ready for college and the next big adventure in your life. You’re thinking about so many things from acing your classes, playing on the team, applying to colleges, spending time with friends, and making memories. You may be wondering: “When is the best time for senior portraits?”

You’re thinking about so much and sometimes, trying to figure out when is the best time of year to take your senior portraits can be overwhelming because you’re so busy.

Well that’s the great thing about the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. You can scheduled your senior portraits nearly year round.

When is the the best time of year for senior portraits?

As a natural light on-location senior portrait photographer, photographing sessions about two hours before sunset, my favorite times of year for senior portraits are Spring and Fall. The weather is best and the sunsets are gorgeous.

Here are my tips for scheduling your senior portraits all year around.

Winter

Winter best time for senior pictures in Texas
  • It’s usually cold, but you may luck out with a warmer day in the 60’s or 70’s.
  • Winter is a great time of year if you’re wanting an urban location.
  • Winter is not a great time of year if you’re wanting a nature or park setting and hoping for green trees and flowers.
  • Rain will cause rescheduling.
  • If you love cold weather, sweaters, scarves, and layering, this is a great time of year for you.

Summer

Creek senior portrait pictures in Dallas
  • Well, the Texas heat is real. And it’s hot. So if you don’t like summer heat, I recommend waiting until the Fall.
  • However, if you love the heat, summer is the perfect time to shoot (but you’ll need to factor in sweating)
  • You’re off from school, so you don’t have to worry about homework (always a good thing!)
  • Typically you won’t have to worry too much about the rain.
  • If you’re a shorts and tank top kind of girl, this is your time of year for your shoot.

Fall: best time of year for senior portraits?

  • One of the best times of year for your senior portraits in Dallas Fort Worth.
  • Since the sun begins to set earlier during the fall, you may consider getting out of school early if we’re shooting on a weekday.
  • The State Fair of Texas is in town and we could even photograph your senior portraits there!
  • Sweater weather. Boot weather. Scarf weather. Clothing favorites for my clients.

Top Tips for Deciding when to Book Your Senior Portraits

  • Consider any yearbook or photo deadlines – if you need turn a photo in by September, be sure to book your senior portraits the summer before!
  • Are you planning to change your look? Get a haircut or piercing? Consider taking your senior pictures before then.
  • What does your schedule look like for the school year? While senior portraits are not a stressful experience, it’s best to not have too much going on. You don’t want it to be an afterthought!
  • Do you have a favorite time of year? Do you have a least favorite season? If you hate the cold, don’t book your senior portraits in the Winter. If you can’t stand the heat, make sure to book in the Spring or Fall!
