What to Wear for Your Brand Photoshoot: My Best Advice

Can you guess the #1 question I get asked before a brand photoshoot? Here’s a hint:

“What do I wear?!”

I get it—figuring out what to wear for your brand session can feel overwhelming. But don’t worry, I’ve got you! With a little strategy (and a few pro tips), you’ll walk into your shoot feeling confident and looking completely on-brand.

Start with Your Brand Identity

Your outfit should tell the story of your brand. What message do you want to send? Are you a luxury wedding planner who exudes sophistication? A down-to-earth, approachable coach? A bold, no-nonsense consultant? Your clothing should align with the energy and personality of your brand.

For example, a structured, neutral blazer reads polished and professional, while a bright pink oversized blazer says playful and bold. Neither is right or wrong—it all depends on the brand image you’re creating.

Consider Your Brand Colors

Your brand photos will be all over your website, social media, and marketing materials, so it’s smart to wear colors that complement your existing brand palette. If your website is filled with soft pastels, a neon green dress might feel out of place. On the flip side, incorporating your brand colors (subtly or boldly) can strengthen your visual identity and create consistency across your marketing.

But what if you don’t love wearing your brand colors? No problem—just make sure your outfit choices complement them rather than clash. Think about adding neutral tones or accessories in your brand colors instead of wearing them head-to-toe.

Think About Seasonality

You wouldn’t wear a winter coat in July, right? When choosing your outfits, consider how seasonal they look. If you want your brand photos to be versatile year-round, opt for season-neutral pieces. If you know you’ll need fresh content for different times of the year, planning two sessions (one for warmer months, one for cooler months) can be a game-changer.

Choose Your Most Flattering Colors

Once upon a time, I told clients to avoid certain colors—like neon or some neutrals. But I’ve changed my tune! The truth is, the best colors for you depend on you.

If you’ve ever heard of getting your colors analyzed (think: spring, summer, autumn, winter color palettes), you know how powerful it can be to wear shades that enhance your natural features. The right color can make your skin glow, your eyes pop, and your whole look feel effortless.

Not sure what colors flatter you most? Here’s a quick trick: Hold up different colored clothing near your face in natural daylight. Notice what makes your skin look vibrant and what washes you out. Bonus: Think back to times when someone complimented how a color looked on you—that’s usually a good sign!

Highlight What You Love, Downplay What You Don’t

I will always remind you that you’re beautiful exactly as you are—but I also know we all have features we love to highlight (and some we’d rather not emphasize). The key to feeling great in your photos is wearing clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident.

If you don’t love showing your upper arms, skip the sleeveless tops. If you feel amazing in outfits that show off your waist, go for structured silhouettes. Want to highlight your strong legs? Rock a killer pair of shorts or a fitted dress. The goal is to wear what makes you feel your best.

When in Doubt, Get Professional Help

If picking outfits still feels stressful, enlist a pro! Many boutiques offer personal styling services, and your brand photographer (that’s me!) can also help guide your choices based on the vibe you’re going for. Don’t be afraid to ask for help—it can make all the difference in creating a look that feels authentically you.

When you work with me, I’ll share my FAVORITE stylists who can help you get ready for your brand photoshoot.

At the end of the day, the best outfit for your brand session is one that makes you feel like the most confident, polished version of yourself. Now go pick out something amazing—you’ve got this!
