One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is “How often should I update my brand photos?”. And if you’re wondering how often should you update your brand photos, let’s talk about it.
And here’s the thing. It absolutely depends on you and your business.
Here are some things to take into consideration if you’re contemplating if it’s time for new brand photos.

Update Your Branding Photos Regularly
As a brand photographer, I do think that you need to update your brand photos regularly. The frequency will depend on your business. Regularly might look like once a year, every two years, or even every six months.
It really depends on the volume of content that you use in your business.
For businesses that are very personal brand forward, you may need more photos more frequently. If you’re a business who doesn’t use much social media and mainly using your photos for your website and email newsletter, then you can probably get away with every two to three years.
But there comes a certain point where you’re going to notice that you’re tired of the photos that you have. You’ve used the same ten photos in rotation and it’s starting to get old. You (or your team) will tell you that it’s time.
How Often Do You Need New Brand Photos?
So that being said, I recommend that you make it a goal to update your brand photos at least every two years. If you use a lot of content, you’re active on social media, you’re launching offers often, or you’re going through a brand refresh or full rebrand, then consider updating your photos more frequently.
And I know that the thought of putting a brand photoshoot together can sound like a lot. Because it is A LOT. There are a lot of moving parts and admittedly, it takes a lot of effort.
But that’s why you hire someone like me. I’m a brand photographer and part of my process is taking on a lot of the planning and strategy so that for the most part, you can show up to the photoshoot and I’ll tell you what to do.
And it’s also why once you’re a client, you get a special client-only return rate. We’ve already worked together so you don’t need to rehash your entire business and brand with a new person. I already know and understand your business, so we’re steps ahead than starting over again with a new photographer.
How Often a Branding Photographer Get New Photos
Personally, I try to get new brand photos at least every two years. I knew that I needed new brand photos as I was planning a new website. As someone who frequently uses social media, I started to feel like I needed new photos and I started to notice the types of photos that I didn’t have and could ask my photographer to take next time.

And you can use this strategy as well. Look at your current library of photos. What types of photos do you wish you had in your library that are currently missing? Make a list of those photos. Then you can give that list to your photographer as priorities for your next photoshoot.
