How to Manage Your Digital Life

Managing your digital life can become tiresome, given how much we rely on devices these days. However, it is necessary for security, safety, and peace of mind. In an always-connected world, it is easier said than done. From boundaries to social media use, here are some ideas.

Secure Your Mobile Devices

Phones, tablets, and laptops are an essential part of modern life. We get so attached to them that our lives are in them. Without even realizing it, your devices contain everything a criminal needs to take control of your life and steal your identity. Bank card details, login credentials, and even copies of official documents can be digitally stored. Download VPN for Windows and any other devices you use to help prevent your data from being intercepted by malicious hackers.

Managing Your Digital Life with Boundaries

There are almost endless uses for the tech we rely on daily. But it can become overwhelming. This is especially true when you need to get things done. As a photographer or any other job that requires concentration, this can really set you back. Yet you aren’t alone, as in the US, over 90% of workers admit to being distracted every day. And those birds are still very angry! Try to set boundaries for answering emails and calls and using your phone in any detracting way.

Have a Day of Disconnection

It’s okay to unplug. Pretty much everyone with a smartphone probably uses it too much. Heavy screen time has been linked to severe issues such as social isolation, despair, and even suicidal thoughts from heavy social media usage. Additionally, there are some physical health risks of using digital devices, such as blue light. Blue light has been linked to sleep disruption and fatigue. It will help to set aside a day, like Sunday, to eliminate all non-essential mobile device or computer usage.

Apps Managing Your Digital Life

Apps are excellent for managing many aspects of our lives, and there are some you probably use multiple times per day. From photography to virtual meetings, we use our computers and devices for all kinds of things. So, here are some of the most useful for digital management:

  • Collaboration apps make living and working in another country much easier.
  • Organizers and planners are old, but they really help you with daily tasks.
  • Wellness apps can help you manage how much time you spend on your devices.
  • Apps such as LastPass remove the need to remember all those pesky passwords!
  • Pockets app enables you to store interesting items for reading later when you have time.

When there is just too much for your brain to handle, apps can be a Godsend. Reminders, communication, and managing complex data are just some of the fantastic examples of apps.

Remove Yourself from Email Lists

Just like the physical world, we can get bogged down in the digital. This includes multiple streams of information that come at you, just like the ad bombardment you get on the street. Emails can be a source of frustration as too many cause issues. For example, you might miss a critical email in the deluge of junk mail in your inbox. Removing yourself from email lists helps keep your inbox neat and tidy and declutters some of your digital trash for peace of mind.

Managing Your Digital Life on Social Media

Social media! Love it or loathe it, it has its uses. At the very least, it keeps you in touch with friends and family. Or you can use it to run a business! Today, there are over 5 billion social media users all over the world. And that means a torrent of abuse, radical language, and general bad behavior from people who frankly don’t belong in society! Stay organized on social media with people you actually know, wholesome browsing and blocking private information.

Stay Vigilant About Your Web Use

There are always threats around every corner of the web. The web is an amazing place full of knowledge. But there always seems to be someone with bad intentions. Today, this usually means someone is trying to steal data somehow. The best thing to do is to stay mindful of what you are clicking on, whether it’s a web link or an email link. Avoid using things like QR codes, too, as these can be easily faked and manipulated for data theft. Don’t trust it? Don’t use it!

Summary

It will help to secure your mobile devices when managing your digital life. Something like a VPN can stop your data from being tracked. There are also many apps you can use when things are hectic. But above all, being cautious about how you interact with the web prevents most issues.
