Want to make your headshots more fun? Let’s chat.
Headshots. It’s one of those things as a business owner that you probably love…or hate. You know that you’re the face of your business, but you hate being in front of the camera. Or you don’t mind being in front of the camera, but dread all the work that it takes to get it done.
When was the last time you updated your headshot? Does your avatar on LinkedIn still look like the current you? Does your photo on your website look like you? Do you have a photo of yourself on your website?
Having a photo of yourself across your web presence builds trust with future clients and customers. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve come across a website and the photo of the owner of the company is conspicuously missing. Or their social media profile photo is their company logo.
Whether you are a solopreneur or lead a Fortune 500 company, having a photo of yourself as the face of the company will make a huge difference in building trust with your audience.
Let’s talk about how to make your headshots more fun. Maybe that way, you’ll be more inclined to have them updated regularly, instead of every five years (or more!). Trust me, I’m totally guilty of not getting my headshots updated as often as I would like.
An easy way to make your headshots more fun is to schedule them with a friend. Do you have a friend or group of friends who have businesses too? Great! Ask them if they would want to schedule their headshots with you.
Sometimes, it can feel intimidating to get in front of the camera alone. Having a friend for moral support to cheer you on will certainly make your headshots more fun.
Who doesn’t feel like a million bucks in a new outfit that you love? I know that whenever I get a new outfit that I feel like I have more pep in my step and just feel better.
Go shopping prior to your headshots and buy a new outfit or two. Bring along your friend who will be having headshots with you and get their opinion on your outfits.
When it comes to outfits, I typically recommend one dressier outfit and one more casual outfit. Now you can gauge what level of dressy and casual is comfortable for you. Feel free to dress completely on your terms.
Another way to feel great for your headshots and to make your headshots more fun would be to get your hair and makeup done. There is nothing quite like pampering to make you feel good.
Getting your hair and makeup done for your headshots is also great because your makeup artist will know how to get you camera-ready. The camera absorbs and reflects light in specific ways, and sometimes, if you’re not a pro at makeup (like me!) then you can look washed out in your photos, even when you feel like you have a lot of makeup on.
I love working with hair and makeup artists to ensure that I am camera ready and not worry about my face or hair.
One of the best ways to make your headshots more fun is to plan to go out afterwards. You’ve already planned the shoot with a friend, bought a new outfit, and got your hair and makeup done. You’re ready to go out to dinner to celebrate!
It always feels like a bit of a let down to get dressed up and makeup done with no where to go. So, I recommend that you plan to go out after your headshots. Whether it’s to happy hour or trying out that new restaurant, make the most of looking amazing.
