It’s the weekend! There are times when all I want to do is curl up on the couch with a good book or watch a marathon of Downton Abbey episodes on Hulu Plus. Then, there are other times when I’m ready to go out and do something, and sometimes, the ideas run dry.
But it’s October in Texas, which means a couple of things: good weather, pumpkins, musicals, and the State Fair!
Here are a couple of ideas of what to do this weekend (and next week!):
You haven’t been to a fair until you’ve been to the State Fair of Texas. Seriously. I went for my first time two years ago. I love the corn dogs! And occasionally trying the latest fried creation. I think Cent and I had a fried Snickers, but it was a good thing we split it.
While the Fair is in full swing, Dallas Summer Musicals also puts on awesome shows! The Addams Family currently is playing through October 21st. We’ve watched Dreamgirls, The Lion King, Rent, and Stomp. Just remember, parking is probably going to be crazy!

While I’ve been to the Dallas Arboretum a few times for weddings, I still have never been for the annual Dallas Arboretum Pumpkin Patch! But I’ve heard and seen that it’s amazing, so maybe this year we’ll go. It’s definitely a great spot for photos if you want that real fall feeling in Texas!
Finally, while you can’t technically go to Chihuly Nights at the Arboretum this weekend, it is something to see during the week before it’s gone! I know I want to go see it. Chihuly is an amazing artist who works with glass. If you’ve ever been to the Bellagio in Las Vegas, he created the ceiling masterpiece in the lobby. The exhibit has been open since May, but the weather is finally nice enough to enjoy the outdoors.
