This year, I really wanted to challenge myself to try something new. And not just something new as related to photography, but something totally new to me. I’ve always admired calligraphy – specifically modern calligraphy – from afar, and after some Googling, decided to pull the trigger and sign up for a class.
Last Saturday, I took a class taught by Heather Bloem of Design Roots. It was so much fun! I’ve always appreciated pretty penmanship and beautiful fonts, so a calligraphy class was right up my alley.
Calligraphy has been such a fun creative outlet for me and it’s only been four days! I’m totally obsessed with it. Technically, during the class we only learned how to pen the lower case letters, but the inner overachiever in me has been winging it when it comes to the uppercase letters. Here are some practice pieces I’ve penned in the last few days.
Calligraphy has been so fun to play around with. I’m no expert at all, so I think that’s half the fun. I have no idea (mostly) what I’m doing and making mistakes and messing up is even fun.
Can’t wait to keep practicing.
What are you trying out this year that’s new to you?
