I’ve been a Showit user now for over 15 years. I’ve been a user of Showit before they were a website platform company. I remember when Showit’s main product was a slideshow software. That’s how long I’ve been a customer.
I have seen Showit’s evolution from when they pivoted into website software (it used to be a program you downloaded) and then went completely online. I went to their “conferences” during WPPI before they had a “legit” conference. Needless to say, I’ve been a loyal supporter of this company.
In fact, back in 2009, I took a major (at the time) gamble. At the time, they were raising funds (I assume for software development) and also to buy a tour bus. And so they sold Lifetime Subscriptions to the very early iteration of the website building software. It was $1000. At that time, that felt like a very big investment for me, especially without knowing if the company would be around in a few years.
Well, I can say with confidence, that it was one of the best bets I’ve made when it comes to my business. I bought a Lifetime Subscription before I had a full-fledged photography business. But I knew (I had a hunch) that I was making a “safe bet”. Luckily, I was right.
So I thought that I’d break down why I think Showit is the absolute BEST website platform for creatives.
I think of myself as an internet “grandma” in the sense that I’ve had a URL and website since 2009. While I know there are people who have had websites for longer, in the photography space, I’m definitely on the upper end. But here’s the difference, I didn’t get stuck with one of those flash websites from 2007…with the music. If you know, you know.
All that to say, I’ve seen my fare share of website builders. The good, the bad, and the really ugly. And I can say with confidence and my whole chest that Showit is the best website builder for creatives. If you’re a solopreneur, creative entrepreneur, or need and want a website that stands out in a crowd…Showit can get you there.
Listen, they are not paying me to write this post. It believe in them that wholeheartedly. And listen, this isn’t a post that was generated by AI either. This is pure, honest, feedback from a long time user who has seen the iterations of the platform over a decade and a half.
I love Showit because it is SO easy to customize. While, yes, there is a learning curve (as with any software), the fast that you can literally drag and drop and see your work in action is a win for me. It’s what they call a “WYSIWYG” (what you see is what you get) and as a creative who isn’t here for learning code, CSS, or HTML, it’s such a win.
It’s also awesome that you can update your website all day, every day. It’s easy to pop in photos and edit text, and make any updates you need depending on your business. And without having to go through a gatekeeper! And you can grant access to your design to a designer if you’re working with someone to customize your template.
If you need a basic website, then maybe you don’t need Showit. But if you want your website to stand out and get noticed by your ideal client, it’s the website builder for you.
Between being able to customize a template so that it looks completely different to just building a site from scratch… there are infinite possibilities. It’s amazing to see what designers and users have created with their websites. I love going on Tonic Site shop to see what their customers have done with their templates. It’s amazing.
You can change the colors, fonts, add photos, videos, and more. You can integrate your CRM forms like with Honeybook or Dubsado so that your contacts can go directly into your system. You can embed forms for your email marketing like Flodesk or MailerLite or Kit.
Probably the best thing about Showit that I have raved about for YEARS is their support. Back in the day when they had a tiny team, they used to refer to their support staff as the “Support Studs” because it was a bunch of dudes. However, since then, they have a larger, diverse team of Support Pros. They also have a support bot that will help direct you in the right direction.
I can say with certainty that I’ve always had my questions answered and crises (to me) addressed. There was a time when my blog had locked me out and I got a “scary” screen that it was locked and they walked me through. I have a bit of a complicated setup with my domain name, and even though it was probably technically out of their scope of assistance, they still helped me troubleshoot a problem!
Shoutout to Showit Support Pros.
So I know one of the hesitations some people may have with switching to Showit (especially if they are coming from WordPress) is giving up their blog and all their “Google juice” that comes with a blog. Well, there’s good news. You can migrate your WordPress blog to work alongside Showit! You would have a main hub website on Showit and then your blog would still run on WordPress, and you’d be able to customize the blog template way more than if you were manually doing it within WordPress code.
While I can’t speak to it’s integration with things like banner ads and services like MediaVine, you can absolutely still have a blog with Showit. And I highly recommend having a blog if you’re a local business owner. It’s a great way to work on your SEO and “tell Google” what it is that you do. But that’s also a conversation for a different post.
I think since Showit launched their online-only software (circa 2015-ish) more and more website designers have created templates for use on the platform. This is great because it means you don’t have to start from a blank page.
That can be the most intimidating thing about Showit – starting from a blank page – because you can do so much. The possibilities are endless. And it’s why I recommend starting from a template. Showit includes a number of “included” and “free” templates when you start a subscription.
However, you can also purchase a design template from a variety of designers. And of course, you can always work with a designer from scratch. After using Showit for all these years, I think the happy medium between a 100% custom and completely doing it yourself is starting from a template.
The following designers are my favorites and I’ve bought templates from them before:
Tonic Site Shop – I just purchased the Valencia design and I’m SO excited to get into it. It’s beautiful and they’ve played with all the features that Showit has to offer.
Elizabeth McCravy Designs – my previous website design was by Elizabeth McCravy Designs. I really believe that her design helped catapult my business into it’s current era.
Jessica Gingrich – Jessica has a suite of Sales Pages that are built for conversion and pretty as well!
With Grace & Gold – My very first Showit template purchase was through these designers.
I know there’s always a hesitation when it comes to changing website platforms, especially when it comes to SEO (search engine optimization). Sometimes tech savvy users are worried that they will tank and obliterate their rankings after shifting to Showit. Well, I can tell you that Showit definitely takes SEO into consideration. Each page has settings for adding SEO keywords and phrases.
As with any website change or shift, you may see a shift if your SEO at first. However, after some time for Google to crawl your new website, and bonus if you use the blog as well, you’ll see yourself climbing back to your position. I’ve been using a Showit website for over 10 years now and I’ve been able to rank on page 1 of Google for the keywords I want. Of course, keep in mind that I have also implemented strategies to get myself up the rankings, but using Showit doesn’t hinder me from ranking well. (Disclaimer: there are other factors that go into SEO and I’m not covering that here.)
So there you have it. As a veteran user of Showit, I can say that it has been an absolute game changer for my business. The fact that I can update and customize my website with ease and speed is amazing. I can make my website stand out from the crowd (or as my designer to help me with that). There’s no reason to have a basic and boring website if you’re using Showit.
Even the most “basic” Showit website is more engaging and interesting than a basic template for other builders out there.
If you’ve been considering a Showit website, I highly encourage you to check it out! When you click here, you’ll get a month free to try it out.
