So to me, summertime also means MOVIES! It’s the time of year when a ton of big movies come out in theaters. Here’s a list of some of the ones I’m looking forward to.
Captain America: Civil War (May 6) – WATCHED
This was one of my husband’s highly anticipated movies of the summer. We were in California (hanging out at Disneyland!) the day that it came to movie theaters, so we took the first opportunity to go see if when we got back to Dallas. I didn’t see the previous Captain America: Winter Soldier movie, so I think there might have been some bits missing for me, but overall it was a good summer action comic book movie. I enjoyed it.
X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27) – WATCHED
When we went to see Captain America: Civil War, there was a problem with the projector and a delay in the start of the movie. To make it up to us, AMC Theaters gave us free passes for a future movie. We went to go see X-Men: Apocalypse a couple weeks ago. I like movies that give back stories about different characters and thought this did a pretty good job…however, it did have some kind of hokey moments that felt a little gimmicky.
Me Before You (June 3) – This movie looks right up my alley. I haven’t read the book, so now I feel a little bit compelled to read it before I watch the movie version.
Finding Dory (June 17) – I’m SO excited for this movie! If you know anything about me, I’m a huge Disney and Pixar fan and Finding Nemo is one of my favorite Pixar movies. At first I wasn’t really sure how they would make a “sequel” twelve years later, but in true Disney/Pixar fashion, I can’t wait to see this movie!
Central Intelligence (June 17) – I’m a huge fan of both Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart. I imagine having both of them in a buddy cop movie will be a hilarious combination. I’m sure it’ll make a fun summer flick…but maybe not enough for a full-price movie ticket.
Independence Day Resurgence (June 24) – I remember when the original Independence Day came out. It was like the biggest movie ever. We were all riveted by the idea of aliens invading earth (an ongoing fascination!). Making a sequel twenty years later is sure to be interesting!
Free State of Jones (June 24) – I like history movies and this one looks interesting.
Legend of Tarzan (July 1) – I think people must be fascinated with the idea of Tarzan, a man raised by animals.
The Secret Life of Pets (July 8) – I’m pretty sure I’m a kid at heart because ever since I first saw a teaser for this movie, The Secret Life of Pets, I couldn’t wait until it hit theaters. It looks super cute, especially if you have a pet and leave them home alone during the day. Plus, there’s a dachshund in the trailer and Kevin is a dachshund.
Ghostbusters (July 15) – I remember watching the original Ghostbusters on VHS back in the day and it was a classic 80’s movie. I’m looking forward to the reboot of Ghostbusters, but this time with some of the funniest ladies in the business: Melissa McCarthy, Kirsten Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.
Star Trek Beyond (July 22) – I’m far from being a Trekkie, however, the new movies from the past few years has totally made me reconsider the idea that Star Trek was boring. I’m sure this will fulfill it’s role as a big summer movie.
Jason Bourne (July 29) – When I first saw the trailer I thought, “ANOTHER Jason Bourne movie?!” but then, well, Matt Damon is reprising his role as Jason Bourne and I’m thinking it’ll be good.
Bad Moms (July 29) – This looks hilarious. I give shoutouts to all the moms out there – to the ones who seem to have it all together and the moms who proudly declare that they totally don’t.
Suicide Squad (August 5) – My husband is really looking forward to this movie. I know nothing about it besides what I can gather from the trailer. It looks like a dark superhero/antihero kind of movie that I’m sure will be entertaining…and I know we’ll be seeing this in the theater.
Southside with You (August 26) – I first saw the trailer for this movie on a Facebook post by John Legend. I’m so glad I clicked to watch because I want to see this movie! It tells the story of how President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama met and how their love story unfolds.
