As a kid, I always thought that the new year started in September, not January. September is the beginning of the school year, so it made sense in my mind. From second grade to eighth grade I had to wear a school uniform, which may seem like kind of a bummer, but I actually liked it. Not so much because it was the most stylish thing I ever owned, but because I didn’t have to think about what I was going to wear everyday.

Once I got to high school where we had a fairly strict dress code  but we could choose what we wore, I panicked. I didn’t have a closet full of clothes and accessories. Because I had worn a uniform for so long, I didn’t really know what was in fashion or how to dress “cute” for school. I had some ideas that I garnished from TV and magazines, but because most junior-sized clothes didn’t fit me, I would find myself having to choose things from the women’s section. It was stressful (at least in my mind at the time).
