Have you been to the Winspear Opera House? I absolutely love going to see Broadway shows there!
Dark clouds hung in the sky, looking like a big storm was brewing. It was one of those times when it seemed that a postponement or reschedule was inevitable. However, by afternoon, it still had not started to rain. Furiously, I checked the forecast on Weather.com and it said that there was an 60-80% chance of rain. I checked with Audrey and her mom if they wanted to go forward with the shoot and they said yes.
Who knew that the weather would be the most stressful part of my job? Or rather, needing to predict it. Since the client was willing to still shoot, in spite of the looming storm clouds, I was game too. I whispered a little prayer that the rain would hold out until after her shoot.
And guess what? It never rained that day. In fact, the sun came out and the weather was perfect. Prayer answered!
Winspear Opera House Senior Portraits
We shot Audrey’s Winspear Opera House senior portraits in the Dallas Arts District, which provides a nice mix of modern architecture with a touch of greenery, while also having a nice city vibe.
Audrey is headed to Texas Tech University in the Fall.
I’ve kind of decided that if I were to do life over, and wanted a job where I was expected to predict something, but it was totally okay to get it wrong 50% of the time, then I would look into meteorology. Even if they predict the weather incorrectly, they still keep their jobs, ha!
Top Tips for Senior Portraits in Downtown Dallas
- Take parking into consideration. Depending on the day, the time of day, and what’s happening in Downtown Dallas, be sure to take parking into consideration. Sometimes there is street parking, there is paid lot parking, and paid parking building parking. Be sure to arrive in Downtown with enough time to scout for parking as well as keep some change on hang in the event a meter accepts coins!
- You’ll most likely be changing in a pop up tent or your car. In Downtown Dallas, there aren’t that many options for changing. Pretty much all of my clients change outfits in their car or have their mom/sister/friend hold up a towel while they change. Keep that in mind! Make sure you pack the necessary undergarments as well.
- The best time for taking your senior portraits in Downtown Dallas is during the week for the least amount of car traffic and people traffic. On weekends, there will be a lot more people out and about compared to weekdays. I’d advise starting your session around 3-4pm depending on the time of year.
If you’re a senior attending Prosper High School, Rockhill High School, Celina High School, Lone Star High School, Panther Creek High School, Wakeland High school or surrounding area high schools, be sure to reach out for your senior portrait session. Visit my senior portraits page for more info!
